澳門爵士樂推廣協會(Macau Jazz Promotion Association)

成立於2010年,為澳門非牟利文化藝術團體,旨在推廣澳門爵士樂發展,提供本地樂手演出及學習的機會,為樂迷帶來高水平的演出及活動,建立音樂愛好者及專業樂手交流平台、籍此突顯澳門的多元文化特色。

2013年1月舉行為期一個月的「Zé Eduardo工作坊(第一期)」及成果音樂會,作為與葡萄牙樂手協會(Associação Gremio das Músicas)簽署合作協議後首個項目; 2-3月參與SKY21「黃昏美饌爵士音樂會」系列,為Magnus Lindgren、Ginger Kwan及包以正等單位作開場演出,同時本會亦邀請瑞典著名色士風手Magnus Lindgren及其Nordic Light Quartet成員舉行大師班;5月邀請國際知名瑞典結他手Ulf Wakenius來澳舉行音樂會及舉行大師班;本會樂隊參與「第二十四屆澳門藝術節」多媒體互動劇場《夢見澳門》之現場演奏;同月協辦民政總署《黃昏音樂會》系列,邀請香港爵士女伶Angelita Li舉行「夏日爵士微風」音樂會;8月受澳門愛樂協會邀請,參與「澳門管樂節2013」兩場爵士音樂會之演出;同月本會樂隊為本澳創意產業代表單位之一”創意空間 Creative Macau”之十週年慶祝典禮擔任表演嘉賓;9月舉行「Zé Eduardo工作坊(第二期)」,承接年初的第一期內容建立學員扎實的基礎; 9月邀請香港爵士結他大師舉行結他工作坊;10月本會協辦文化局「第二十七屆澳門國際音樂節」《樂得起》爵士樂工作坊,協會成員更參與了 《夜來爵士風》音樂會及延申活動《卓思樂爵士樂海報展》之開幕式及領事專場之演出;12月舉辦「澳門爵士週2013」,於連續九日內舉行10場活動,邀請來自澳洲、意大利、泰國、台灣、香港及本澳的樂手獻技,得到熱烈支持;本會組織”Second Line Band”參與《澳門拉丁城區幻彩大巡遊》;年度最後一項活動為《2013專場音樂會》,當中協會成員除發表原創作品外,亦演奏了9月工作坊的歌曲,新成員樂隊”Mini Jazz”亦於是次演出正式亮相。其他演出活動有:文化局「圖書館週」延申活動、「澳門藝術節」《百藝看館》、民政總署「氹仔市集」、”藝.玩地 Oily Duck”開幕式、法國文化協會《保祖利新酒發表會》及《2013青春交響馬拉松》。

21012年5月本會舉辦《顧忠山三重奏音樂會及大師班》,邀請華人首屈一指結他手與其國際團隊來澳獻技;6月邀請香港樂評人及音樂節創辦人Clarence Chang舉辦《爵士CD欣賞會》;7月協辦民政總署《爵士夠薑》黃昏音樂會,邀請香港爵士女歌手Ginger Kwan來澳獻唱;8月舉辦泰國曼谷交流,拜訪泰國藝術大學(Silpakorn University)爵士音樂學系,團員除了參與體會其大學課程外亦與當地學生及樂手交流學習;10月組成Costa Modern Jazz Ensemble十二重奏樂隊,參與文化局「第二十六屆澳門國際音樂節」《大搖大擺大炮台》音樂會,發表四首原創作品;11月本會與葡萄牙樂手協會(Associação gremio das musicas)簽署合作協議,促進澳門與葡國的文化交流;12月本會舉行首個大型系列活動「澳門爵士週2012」,於一週內舉行7場活動,邀請來自美國、法國、馬來西亞、香港及本澳的樂手,為近年本澳的爵士盛事,並得到熱烈迴響。此外本會亦積極參與本澳各項活動:參與民政總署「綠化週」開幕禮及「氹仔市集」演出、於法國文化協會《保祖利新酒發表會2012》中演出。另外本會亦於澳門君悅酒店(Grand Hyatt Hotel)婚禮展擔任表演樂隊,及於SKY21舉行午後音樂會。

2011年5月本會首次邀請外地樂團來澳演出,舉辦了《WVC Trio +1 2011中國巡迴最終站–澳門站》音樂會及大師班,得到本澳媒體廣泛報導及熱烈回嚮;7月舉辦首次對外交流,組織了馬來西亞吉隆坡之行,參觀UCSI大學現代音樂系及與當地樂手交流學習,為本澳年輕樂手提供增廣見聞的機會;9月邀請台灣專業結他手張見榮舉行電結他講座;12月於北帝廟前地舉行《九重奏之夜》專場音樂會,突顯澳門中西共融的特色。本會亦組織樂隊參與澳門各項活動:澳門藝術節鄭家大屋演出及路環石排灣郊野公園熊貓館前地表 演;亦於大三巴區知名酒廊Macau Soul及澳門威尼斯人酒店Cafe Deco駐場演出。

2010年暑假,本會組織大樂隊 “Upbeat Jazz Big Band”遠赴上海參加2010年上海世界博覽會之演出,好評如潮;11月於澳門望德堂創意產業園區舉行一連兩晚《搖擺之夜》專場音樂會,當中本會理事長李兆康改編了兩首土生葡人樂曲 “Coimbra”和 “Lisboa Antigua”,其濃厚的中葡音樂特色使音樂會獲得空前成功。

現時本會以年輕樂手及音樂愛好者為主要團員,表演型式從小型重奏至大樂隊,最新型式為九重奏,為較罕見之編制。

The Macau Jazz Promotion Association (MJPA)

The Macau Jazz Promotion Association (MJPA) is a non-profit art association from Macau established in 2010. The aim of MJPA is to promote jazz music to the Macau public and provide opportunities for local musicians, and therefore bringing out the multi-cultural characteristic of Macau.

In Jan, 2013, MJPA hosted Zé Eduardo Workshop (Phase 1) and presentation concert, as the very first act after signing cooperation agreement with Musician Guild Association(Associação Gremio das Músicas) from Portugal. In Feb-Mar, band of MJPA joined “SKY 21 Jazz Festival Dinner & Gig” and warmed up for Magnus Lindgren, Ginger and Eugene Pao, meanwhile Magnus Lindgren, Swedish renowned saxophonist, and his Nordic Light Quartet were invited to host a masterclass. In May, MJPA firstly had an international artist, Ulf Wakenius, to perform and host masterclass in Macau. And in the same month, members of MJPA played as live band for multi-media theatre “I Dreamt about Macau” in 24th Macau Art Festival. MJPA also co-host Evening Concert Series by IACM, inviting Hong Kong diva Angelita Li to perform in “Summer Breeze Jazz Concert”. In August, at invitation of Macau Philharmonic Association, MJPA performed in two jazz concerts of Macau Band Festival 2013, meanwhile, Creative Macau, the leading unit of creative industry in Macau, had it’s 10th anniversary and MJPA was invited to be the performing guest. In Sep, Zé Eduardo Workshop (Phase 2) was held, helping MJPA members to build more solid foundation. Later on, Hong Kong guitarist, Tommy Ho, was invited to host a jazz guitar workshop. In Oct, MJPA co-host “Jazz It Up” workshop with Cultural Affair Bureau for 27th International Music Festival, MJPA members also joined “Iberian Jazz All Stars & Macao Big Band” concert and performed at “Jazz & Design – Niklaus Troxler” Poster Exhibition. In Dec, it came Macau Jazz Week 2013, 10 events were hosted in 9 consecutive days, musicians and guests from Australia, Italy, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau were invited, the week gained enthusiast feedback. MJPA also formed Second Line Band to join “Parade Through Macao, Latin City” by Cultural Affair Bureau. Finally a jazz concert at the very end of the year, performed by MJPA members, included original works as well as tunes from the Zé Eduardo Workshop in September, moreover new members “Mini Jazz” had their debut at this very concert. Other activities of the year: Library Week outreach performance, Outdoor Performing Arts Showcase of Macau Art Festival, Taipa Flea Market performances by IACM, opening ceremony of “Oily Duck” art playground, “The New Beaujolais has Arrived” by Alliance Français Macao, and Youth Symphony Marathon.

In May, 2012, “Lawrence Ku Trio Concert and Masterclass” were held, MJPA had the leading Chinese guitarist and his international group to perform in Macau. In June, Hong Kong music critics and festival founder, Clarence Chang, was invited to conduct a jazz CD appreciation gathering. In July, MJPA co-host “Jazz with Ginger” with IACM, having Hong Kong diva Ginger Kwan a part of the evening concert series. In Aug, an exchange programme with Silpakorn University (Bangkok, Thailand) was held, MJPA members visited it’s jazz music department, experiencing the classes while playing with local students and musicians. In Oct MJPA formed Costa Modern Jazz Group, a 12 piece band, to join the “Ain’t that Swing in Mount Fortress” concert of 26th International Music Festival, and debut four original works. In Nov, MJPA signed a cooperation agreement with Musician Guild Association(Associação Gremio das Músicas). In Dec, the very first event in series, Macau Jazz Week, was held, 7 events were held in a week. Musicians and guests from America, France, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macau were invited to participate, making the week a very successful debut. Meanwhile MJPA had also joined various activities in Macau: By invitation of IACM, MJPA joined the Green Week opening ceremony and Taipa Flea Market performances, “The New Beaujolais has Arrived” by Alliance Français Macao, Wedding Fair of Grand Hyatt Hotel Macao and SKY 21 afternoon concert.

In May, 2011, MJPA invited the renowned modern jazz band WVC Trio+1 from Malaysia and hold “WVC Trio+1 China Tour 2011 – Macau Station” concert and master class, this is the first time the association invites professional group abroad, and receive enthusiast feedback and attention from the media.In July MJPA established the first oversea exchange program to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the program includes visiting the Contemporary Music Department of UCSI University and direct contact with local musicians. In Sep a guitar clinic was hold, by Taiwanese professional guitarist Chien-Jung Chang. In Dec it came “The Nonet Night”, a concert by totally musicians of MJPA. It was taken place in front of Pak Tai Temple, Taipa old district, and flourished the east-meets-west characteristic of Macau. MJPA also joins different local activities in Macau, i.e. Performance at Mandarin House of Macau Art Festival and Panda House weekend gigs, etc. Furthermore, members of the associations have been playing at Macau Soul, located in the St. Paul’s Ruins district, and Cafe Deco in The Venetian Macau Resort. In the summer of 2010, “Up Beat Jazz Big Band” of MJPA performed as part of the Macau Dome programs at Shanghai Expo. In Nov 2010, two nights of “Swing Night” concert was hold at the St. Lazarus Church Creative Industry District, two Portuguese tunes ‘Coimbra’ and ‘Lisboa Antigua’ were rearranged by Mars Siu-Hong Lei, the Chief Executive of MJPA, the blending of European flavour and jazzy sound brought great success to the concert.

MJPA consists of young musicians and music lovers, the performing form varies from small combo to big band, and the latest is nonet (nine piece band).
